Here’s your host, Jason Lynette. Here we go with session number 18, a conversation with Marie Mongan. Many of you probably already know of Maurice. She is the inventor, creator, founder, and president of all things hypno, birthing. And uh, that’s an amazing organization that’s going through some, uh, some great work right now in terms of bringing on additional staff and expanding.
And the event that was just held out in Las Vegas, Nevada, is where I just came back from. That’s their hypnobirthing. Conclave, uh, I’d. About maybe from my estimate, about about a hundred twenty five hundred fifty people descended, uh, there in Vegas. And just before that, I had the great honor of being personally invited to train the NG Hypnosis certification program just prior to the event.
So it was a wonderful experience. You know, the interesting thing about training is that very often you’ll have a big group of people in front of you. All with very different goals. You know, here’s the one that’s coming in and, uh, maybe they already have a wellness practitioner, perhaps they’re massage therapist, Perhaps they do reiki or uh, maybe even acupunctures.
I’ve seen, and the goal is to fold hypnosis and on top of what they’re doing, I’ve also seen people come in perhaps more from the conversational hypnosis side of things. I had a, uh, physical therapist at one point take the class whose specific goal was folding in language around the work that he was doing just to build better compliance.
You know, they would teach those exercises and then their patients would go off and not make use. I’ve had people come in to kind of just expand and compound upon work they had done themselves. Maybe they had done hypnosis sessions for themselves, and then the goal was to then sort of enrich that knowledge of the process on their own.
So people often come into a hypnosis class from all different perspectives and well, for the first time I had a big group of people in front of me. All with nearly the exact same goal. I’m teaching the Hypnobirthing program and I’d like to now offer hypnosis sessions as an adjunct to that. You know, this is a group of people that for the most part, and the program is fantastic.
We actually used it for the birth of our son, Max. We. Yet it’s designed so well that it’s a binder that really does most of the work, most of the information for the practitioner, for the hypno birthing childbirth educator. So to be there expanding these skills, expanding this knowledge, it was a fabulous group and we worked quickly, we worked efficiently, and, uh, they definitely took to it, uh, rather, rather well, so, First of all, of course, I want to thank, uh, Mickey, as well as all the staff for inviting me out there and just had a fabulous event.
Actually, I did a talk there too, um, called How I built a $200,000 hypnosis business that I’m working with the, uh, format of that right now. Either that’ll be a. Special bonus for the listeners of this podcast, or perhaps it’s about an hour and a half. I might actually be breaking it down at about five or six individual sessions as well, just to share that information, get that out there.
My whole theme, of course, is the more we’re all successful. The more we’re all successful. Um, great to connect with a lot of friends out in the Vegas area as well. Uh, special thanks to Marks of Art as well. We actually took the entire class to his program, to his show, uh, Wednesday night during the class and.
Mark hung around a little later and actually shared some of his experiences actually using hypnosis, um, with his wife for the birth of their children as well. So thanks to Mark for that too. Here we go. This is a conversation with Marie Mongan. I recommend. Also head over to work smart hypnosis.com. Find the session associated.
Find the page associated with the session cuz actually this audio. Peeking pulled from a video so you could listen to it here or head over to work smart hypnosis.com and watch the video of this live as well. Thanks so much. I’ll see you soon.
We are here today with Marie Mongan, founder and president of the Hypnobirthing Institute, as well as creator of the Mongan. Hypno birthing program as well. Thank you so much for being here today. Thank you for inviting me. Absolutely. Absolutely. And I’d love to just have a brief conversation. We just wrapped up doing a hypnosis certification program prior to the hypno birthing conclave here in Las Vegas.
Yes. And specifically for the first time offering the training of also becoming a hypnotist and learning those skills to people who are already practicing as hypno, birthing childbirth educators as well. I’m just curious to ask you, what would you say are some of the benefits of someone who’s already working as a hypnobirthing practitioner to expand their skills and now also include hypnosis, hypnotherapy, the process of change work within hypnosis?
Well, actually, I’m very excited about the fact that we are offering this to people this year. I’ve wanted to do this for some time. Uh, hypno birthing practitioners are very skilled and very adept. teaching birthing, but for every mom and dad who walks through their door, there is more than just getting mom through labor or doing the birthing and pre-birth bonding and everything.
All of a sudden, so many other areas come up that they could be of help to, and they unfortunately have to refer out now because their level of expertise in the field just. high enough to be doing that, and I really would like them to feel and learn. The, the mind connection, there’s more birth is not just a physiological.
Process. It is an emotional process and women are men too are really very unknowing and very frightened of it, and so I would love to have all the practitioners do a certification in hypnotherapy so that they’d have a better understanding of working with these parents beyond the anatomy and physiology of.
And it’s interesting too, and this becomes a bit of a massive generalization, but as you look at some of the more advanced techniques and hypnosis about resolving whatever sensations may be there, the concept of fear pops up probably more than anything else. Absolutely. Thought this was gonna happen and it could have happened.
And already inside of the, it’s class number three, it’s, or it’s four, that the fear release process appears. Mm-hmm. , mm-hmm. . And to have the ability to get more specific within that process. When it is that person who needs, for lack of a better term, when the mind has a really good reason to hold onto that issue, sometimes more advanced techniques, sometimes a more integrative approach may be beneficial.
So to be that person that is also there representing the class. But then when the here comes the opportunity to help that person further, to be that kind of, to use the term, that one stop st one stop shop. Where the rapport is already there, the trust is already there, and to be that solution and let them know that the change is possible too.
Mm-hmm. ? Well, yes, absolutely for fear, but it goes even farther than that because so many of our parents come in. actually afraid that they are going to parent the way they’re parents. Mm-hmm. . Yeah. I mean, it goes so far beyond birthing. These are life skills. Yes. And hypnosis is just such a wonderful vehicle to release the fears that they’ve had to release even limiting thoughts.
Mm-hmm. it, it goes beyond fear. It’s all kinds of emotions and. when the person feels confident in dealing with these, that they’re just so much more valuable to the birthing couple. You’re right. It’s not just that one specific fear of here comes the No, it’s not birth alone. No, no. It’s everything.
Actually, we do a, an inventory of what we call limiting thoughts. Mm-hmm. , a lot of the limiting thoughts have nothing to do with actually the birth. It’s. , it’s, uh, you know, job security and that sort of thing. They are, they’re taking on a responsibility that is pretty big. And the whole idea of, Oh my gosh, am I capable?
And all of these times when people have told them they’re not is looming. And so it, it’s just a steam building. It’s. Building a sense of, Yes, I can do this. And so as I say, it goes beyond fear. So far beyond fear, the everyday life skills, stress on the job that could affect the family dynamics. Stress reduction is a big thing.
And so that’s why I definitely really advocate that they, they do this and the theme that. Been putting out there in recent years, is that in hypnosis within any wellness practitioner? Uh, the more we’re all successful, the more we’re all successful. Mm-hmm. . So to spread the awareness by that ability to create those raving fans of the process, not just the ones coming in for the hypno birthing education program, but then also here are the people who can then be also cycling through their offices, their homes, wherever they practice.
And here’s the one that quits smoking perhaps through hypnosis at this person’s office now, and they’re also then being educated. It’s amazing how still in our modern day and age, as much of the information is out there, people just don’t know this exists. Mm-hmm. . And the more we can do to spread that awareness, the more we’re out there working successfully.
It’s just telling that story over and over of what the real benefits of this process become. Yeah. Uh, another factor is the, the cascading events. For instance, someone comes to you for smoking cessation. Mm-hmm. , so you work with her or him or them. With that, we have a way working through the entire family, and then the next thing you.
they’re interested in talking with you about fertility. Mm-hmm. , and that’s one of the adjuncts that we have Also, that’s why I would like to see hypnosis come into this because a lot it, it does surround birth, so they come for fertility and then they come for hypno birthing. So we’ve been able to really, Well, you said it be a one stop and.
I wanna see parents feel that we are specialists in birthing. Excellent. Excellent. Any other advice you would have for someone considering adding hypnosis to their tools if they’re already that hypnobirthing childbirth educator? Yeah. Find the right class. And, and that is important. I mean, they, they will find short, quickie, weekend classes and as far as I’m concerned, that’s the entrance.
Uh, it is not really right. Becoming a, a specialist in it. And so I would say definitely find the right class. Look into the number of hours that the class offers. Um, some people favor. An online, some people don’t. I really like the interaction of a live class. I mean, these, these are human skills we’re talking with, right?
And human. Uh, interaction. Personal interaction. And I don’t think that you get the personal interaction when you’re interacting with a computer. And so this is one of the things that I, I very strongly for both hypno, birthing and hypnosis, is absolutely do it on, uh, no, don’t do it. Do it for a live, live class so that you, you just have that interaction.
Excellent. And we just had a great experience. We had 11 people in the room for the class. We just wrapped up mm-hmm. . And to see that arc of the student where it begins, where some of this information is brand new, that first day. And it’s not a matter of saying, This is good, this is bad. It’s a matter of expanding all of those skills and we get to the point in the class, the way that I do it the last day, where all of a sudden, here come these case studies, here come these real examples of people that I’ve worked with, and it’s a real huge confidence builder for that new student.
Mm-hmm. that as a group, we begin to craft that process. Okay, here’s what we did in the first session, and now here’s the feedback. They just came in at a later session. What would you do now? Right? So to actually play through that process and that live environment just really helps to build up that confidence, that creativity, that flexibility.
And especially at that point, they’re realizing that there are some issues. We just won’t find a script. Absolutely. Absolutely. Uh, yeah. One of the things that I heard that you might be interested in too, is the people who are presently practitioners who took your class, sat there and it was just a steady stream of Aha.
I could have. Applied that to someone. You see that they already referred out to somebody, right? And they sat there saying, Oh, and then they kept thinking of people they had worked with that they could have helped. They weren’t able to because they didn’t have that extra skill. Right. And that extra perception of, Oh yes, this would, this would be a perfect.
Although it’s a quote barred from a friend, we all wish we can call up our very first client and say, No, really, I got better. Come back. Yeah. Yeah. So, uh, we’re, we’re always learning. We’re always expanding. Absolutely. Its house. And even as I’m here teaching the class, even as I’m here presenting actually about 20 minutes from now, uh, , it’s the task of still continuing that education.
Mm-hmm. , you know, my opinion is be that perpetual student who’s putting the information into. Yet still expanding skills and learning further rather than that professional student that that’s all you’re doing and looking for that one Next thing that’s gonna get me ready. Mm-hmm. , Which is why I think it’s so important too, to fold in those themes of, well, here’s that next step.
Here’s the thing you can do now, right? Yes. Right. Yes. Um, this is one of the reasons why in our program we do insist on professional develop. , you know, it’s not a, Well, I got the stamp and so now I’m, I’m free. No, we, we insist on that and I can’t think of a better way than adding. Hypnotherapy to it.
Excellent. It’s been a pleasure to be here. Thank you. Thank you. We’ll see you soon. Thanks for listening to the Work Smart Hypnosis Podcast and work smart hypnosis.com. Please visit the Work Smart Hypnosis Podcast, listing on iTunes and share your positive feedback.
